At Wilderness River Adventures, we have a deep respect for and commitment to protecting and improving the environment.  We work to reduce our environmental footprint while delivering exceptional operational results.  We also offer expertise and practical solutions to our clients to help them reduce their environmental impacts.  Throughout our corporation, we develop and implement long-tern environmental stewardship programs and policies within the areas of sustainable food; responsible procurement; green buildings; energy and water conservation; transportation, and waste stream management.  We call these programs and policies Green Thread as they weave throughout our business operations every day!

We have a comprehensive program of green initiatives on both the Grand Canyon river trips. The initiatives include:

• Recycling all aluminum, glass and plastic used on the trips
• Re-useable plates and silverware
• Solid waste is carried out and treated by a licensed third party
• At Wilderness River Adventures, we understand the power and centrality of food in our daily lives and interactions, and recognize that our food choices have significant impact on our health, culture, environment, and local global economies.  We are committed to fostering new connections from field to fork and changing the culture of food by nourishing our guests with menus that emphasize fresh whole foods that are raised, grown, harvested and produced locally and/or sustainability wherever possible, and prepared in ways that respect and maintain quality, freshness and pureness.
• We use 4 stroke motor technology on our motor boats, which runs cleaner, and more efficiently, using less fuel.
• Our interpretive program includes a focus on environmental responsibility .
• Our packing list includes recommendations on "green packing."
• T-shirts and hats provided to our customers are "GreenBrand" and made from 100% recycled cotton. 

WRA has signed on with the NPS along with all 16 Grand Canyon Outfitters along with Colorado Discovery, in Glen Canyon, to develop a quieter, lower-impact motorboat propulsion technology. The name of the project is the Alternative Motorboat Propulsion Research and Implementation Project. We are currently working with the Arizona State University, University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University and the University of Utah on this project.
